Abstract

The countries of Latin America have undergone great changes and suffered from the consequences of the pandemic. Ecuador is no exception, where increasing poverty, social inequality and lack of technological resources for access to virtual education have seriously affected the quality of education for children, youth and adults. Since the start of the pandemic, Ecuador’s education system has undergone significant changes, one of which has been the introduction of virtual classes, in which teachers, education authorities, parents and students faced a number of difficulties in an educational emergency. This situation has mostly affected the rural areas of the country where lack of Internet access does not allow thousands of children and adolescents to continue their studies. Besides, lack of economic resources does not allow them to access the Internet and computers, which leads to dropout of students from schools. In this sense, virtual education cannot guarantee development and knowledge in the field of education.
