APPROACHES TO CORRECTIONAL AND SPEECH THERAPY WORK WITH PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH MENTAL RETARDATION IN AN INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM

Abstract
The article presents the results of the literature data analysis which describes the approaches to correctional and speech therapy work with primary schoolchildren with mental retardation in an inclusive primary school class. The paper covers the competences that a speech and language therapist needs to possess when working with children with mental retardation, as well as the stages of correctional and speech therapy work. The conditions for carrying out correctional logopaedic work are listed, including individual or group sessions, taking into account the disorders of higher mental functions and the most disturbed side of speech in children with mental retardation. The authors claim that when working with a child with mental retardation it is important for a teacher and speech therapist to actively interact with all participants of the educational process, including parents.
